In Australia, National Police Remembrance
Day is commemorated on 29 September each
year, being the feast day of St Michael
(a.k.a. Michaelmas).

In ancient Chairotopa
near Colossae, tradition has it that St.
Michael caused a medicinal spring to spout.
All the sick who bathed there, and invoked
the names of the Trinity and of St.
Michael, were cured.

Constantinople

At Constantinople St. Michael was the
"great heavenly physician." The Michaelion,
at Sosthenion, some fifty miles south of
Constantinople, was his principal sanctuary
where the sick would sleep and wait for an
apparition of the saint.

The Christians of Egypt placed their
life-giving river, the Nile, under the
protection of St. Michael. They keep, as a
holiday of obligation, the feast of St.
Michael for the rising of the Nile.

In Germany, after its Christian
evangelization, St. Michael replaced the
pagan god Wotan, to whom many mountains
were sacred, hence the numerous mountain
chapels of St. Michael all over
Germany.

In Greek folklore, Michael assumed Hermes'
role as the psychopomp who leads souls to
Hades, and in the role of weigher of souls
on Judgment Day.

In Normandy St. Michael is the patron of
mariners in his famous sanctuary at
Mont-Saint-Michel in the Diocese of
Coutances.

Russians in particular
have a special veneration to Michael, along
with the Theotokos. (Translated means
"God-Bearer" and "the one who gives birth
to God").

Intercession for Russian cities by the Most
Holy Queen of Heaven always involved Her
appearances with the Heavenly Hosts, under
the leadership of the Archangel
Michael.

Mother of God and the Archangel Michael in
church hymns.

was not a monastery, cathedral, church, or
chapel dedicated to the Archangel
Michael.
